Project Description:
Financial incapacity has always been a central issue ever since. The struggle to maintain adequate and appropriate levels of health care is still a challenge of every family. One of the negative consequences of poverty is the inevitable increase of needs for physical and occupational rehabilitation among the local. In which concerned families cannot afford to send ill members to the hospitals and private health care institution to undergo physical and occupational rehabilitation.
The PT and OT identified a number of children with physical and mental disabilities that do not have access to any existing services. Childhood disabilities include; cerebral palsy, mild mental retardation, down syndrome, bone dislocations and Pott’s disease. The main goal of the program is the restoration of the patient form accompanied by the PT/OT in having their check up and the final medical consultation was done by the Physiatrist. Most of the patients avail wheelchairs, braces and special shoes depending upon the donations received or the availability of the said items.
Objectives:
- Aims to respond to the rehabilitation needs of indigent community locals. This benefits the restoration of patients from disability to functional level of activity.
- Provides consultation and evaluation of patient’s condition prior to therapy sessions and reassessment to find out any progress or regression of patients condition.
- To provide awareness and acceptance of the family members and help to understand the real situation and how to handle these kind of cases.
- To Provide occupational and physical therapy sessions for special needs children and elderly, to increase their motor skills and to enhance the mental, emotional and social functional of the patient.
Activities:
- Take interview by the social worker to the patients and family members
- Quarterly check up for the elderly at the local Medical Center
- Provide Therapy sessions and implement Physiatrist evaluation and recommendation and to keep records of patients condition as well s any progress or problems,
- PT/OT conduct care orientation to the patient and family members and ensure the continuity of proper care at home.
Evaluation and Recommendation:
In as much that the elderly and special children needs our medical care and attention, these programs were designed to alleviate and improve the total functioning of the patients. Unfortunately, some of the patients need strength and support and other activities as instructed by the PT/OT
